Zach was originally influenced to play music by his father who formed and
fronted his own band in the 70’s called SUDS. Around the age of 14, his
dad let him play his acoustic Ovation guitar for the first time. He got Zach
started by showing him a few position chords on the guitar and Zach went
from there. Without ever having a lesson, he began to learn songs by ear
from some of his favorite bands like KISS, Van Halen, Tesla, Great White,
Dokken, Metallica, Megadeth, and so many more.
Throughout high school and college, Zach would jam with friends and
other musicians that he met along the way. But for whatever reason, he
never got involved with a band. Occasionally he’d answer local “want ads”
that bands had placed, but no one seemed to be interested. However,
Zach kept playing over the years strictly due to his passion for the guitar
and love of rock music.
It wasn’t until a few years ago in 2005, when a good friend invited Zach to
play guitar in an original rock band, Wicked World. Although his stay with
the band only lasted about a year, Zach finally had the opportunity to play
on stage in front of a crowd for the first time at The Rave in Milwaukee.
The experience left him with an increased amount of confidence in his
guitar playing, and the drive to seek something… bigger. It was at that
time, when Zach decided that if he was ever to play in a band again, he
wanted to be a part of a rock cover band and pay tribute to the bands that
influenced him to play guitar.
After departing Wicked World, almost two years had passed when he
learned that an established cover band called Altered State was “altering”
their lineup and in need of a guitarist. Contact was made, the audition was
held, and the rest as they say, is history.
